Homework
Each student has been given a homework folder. They are to bring their homework folder to and from school Monday-Thursday. Students are asked to read daily for at least 20 minutes. Monday through Thursday, as part of their homework, students will be asked to log the book they are currently reading. Each student needs to be reading a chapter from start to finish at their reading level.
Daily homework-I will be assigning daily homework. Each student needs his/her homework folder with the daily homework log I supply on Monday. They are to write their homework in this log daily and return the work the next morning. Parents need to initial the log daily and check their work.
Spelling- We will be using an online spelling program where students can practice various activities with their leveled list. A pretest and test scores will determine your child’s spelling list. If your child consistently scores well in a group, they may move to a more challenging word list. If your child does not maintain an 80% with the challenge words they will move to the appropriate list.
Math facts-Students need to study their facts regularly. They will take a timed math test about once a week. Timed multiplication tests will begin towards the end of the first semester.
The most important role for parents and homework is to set up a routine for doing homework. Having a quiet study area for your child to work is beneficial. Additionally, parents can provide positive support and clues to tough problems, but not give answers freely. Please check your child’s homework before turning in.
If there ever is an issue with homework, please feel free to contact me. Homework should not take longer than 40 minutes. If modifications need to be done, we can work together to find what works best for your child.
I am providing an in-class incentive for returning homework daily.
